Rachel McAdams on Vogue Cover

Rachel McAdams on the cover the January issue of Vogue US

Our fellow Torontonian Rachel McAdams is appearing on the cover of the upcoming January issue of Vogue, shot by Mario Testino. I have to say, while Rachel is gorgeous and the Dolce & Gabbana dress she was put in is stunning, something about this cover is not quite right… Maybe it’s the hair? Too much photoshop? It just does not do her justice. Sad. Oh well, I’m still thrilled to see a fellow Torontonian, not to mention a sexy, intelligent woman, on the cover of Vogue.

First Official SATC 2 Poster

Sex and the City 2 Poster

The first official Sex and the City 2 movie poster is out and making the internet rounds. Like most women, I’m a huge SATC fan and cannot WAIT to see the second movie. In this poster SJP is donning a gorgeous white Halston dress and Louboutin gold-sequined pumps. She looks amazing, as usual. SATC 2 is slated to hit theatres May 28, 2010. So excited!

Chanel Pre-Fall 2010 Collection

Chanel just held it’s Pre-Fall 2010 fashion show in Shanghai last Thursday. The collection, appropriately, was inspired by the culture and glistening skyline of Shanghai itself. Karl Lagerfeld told WWD:

“It is about the idea of China, not the reality. It has the spirit of, and is inspired by, but is unrelated to China. It is not authentic like a Peking Opera or something.”

As per usual, I pretty much adore anything Lagerfeld does, especially for Chanel. In this collection I particularly love the futuristic leather and silver juxtaposed with the ubiquitous Chanel tweed. The whole thing seems a little Barbarella, which I love.

My submission

I just found out I was one of the (admittedly several) runners-up for the Jimmy Choo Project PEP photography contest. I can honestly say I have no idea how the contest was being judged, for all I know it could have been random, but I did win a prize so that’s exciting. Project PEP generates awareness and supports the Elton John AIDS Foundation. More info here.

H&M Spring 2010 Collection

H&M Spring 2010 Collection

H&M has released a preview of their Spring 2010 women’s collection. It looks…. cool? I’m actually kind of thrown off by some of the stuff. I really thought H&M would pick up on some of the more fun trends on the Spring 2010 runways. Where are the saturated 80’s inspired colours and prints? The bold-shouldered 1940’s skirt suits? The barely-there lingerie inspired dresses, hotpants and bustiers? I do like the black silk one-piece and the gold harem pants, but other than that not so much. I’m hoping there will be much more colour in the actual collection than there is in these images…

Coco Rocha in Paris, image via Teen Vogue

Canadian supermodel Coco Rocha announced via her blog Oh So Coco that she’ll be launching her own clothing line. In the video announcing the line she asks her blog readers to leave suggestions for the line’s name – which, from the brief shot of Coco drawing, looks to include pencil skirts, skinny pants and bracelet-sleeved blouses. I think she has phenomenal style, and while it’s doubtful, I really hope her line is affordable!

Topshop's NYC Store

Via The Bay, that is. While rumours have been swirling for months in the fashion scene, we got our first real glimmer of hope this past week that Topshop may actually be coming to The Bay! HBC CEO Jeff Sherman told Report on Business Magazine that the two companies are in talks:

“We’re talking to them but we have not struck a deal. I’d like to. That’s an indication of how we’re thinking of using a lot of the space in our stores. We’re going to start taking a look at food and restaurants and entertainment venues. We’ve been talking to GoodLife Fitness. We’re trying to make that happen.”

Looks like there’s hope, recessionistas! Having been to the NYC Topshop, I can honestly say it will change your retail life. So exciting!

Holt Renfrew on Bloor St. W

Holt Renfrew will open it’s first ever pop-up shop this week. “The Fashion House” condo development on King St. W is obviously catering to a fashion-forward crowd by hiring local designers Jeremy Laing and Greta Constantine to decorate the building’s lobbies, and now by getting Holt’s to host a self-described unisex pop-up collection. The shop will be open from December 2 – 6 at 560 King St. W.
